Synopsis


Songs for a New World is, according to composer Jason Robert Brown, “about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.”
With a rousing score that blends elements of pop, gospel and jazz, featuring tight harmonies and darling vocals, Songs for a New World transports its audience from the deck of a spanish sailing ship bound for a new land, to the ledge of a New York penthouse. Characters range from a young man in the Bronx who dreams of becoming a famous basketball player, to a forlorn and neglected Mrs. Claus lamenting as Christmas approaches.
A powerful cast, with many opportunities for solo, duet, ensemble and large chorus work and a supercharged, well crafted score appeal to old and new generations alike as each character -- in their own way -- takes hold of that one moment and enters a new world.

Rehearsal Schedule Announcement

A more complete schedule will be available on Tuesday, March 30th.

All Cast Members will need to attend a rehearsal on Tuesday, March 30th at the Middle School Auditorium from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. pm. 

All Cast Members should be prepared to rehearse on Friday, April 2nd and Saturday April 3rd during the day.

​Steam Train Dancers will rehearse Tuesday, March 30th from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The following Cast Members will rehearse Tuesday, March 30th form 4:30 to 6:00 pm at the Middle School Auditorium
Brodie, Cariveau, Annie Houglum, Tahlia Haas, Kameron Wilkins, Hannah Hagen, Lauren McDougal, Annika Gulseth and Alexander Fletcher.

What Do I Do For Auditions?

Musical Auditions are open to all students in grades 6 - 12
1.  Prepare to perform two contrasting songs from Songs For a New World.
2.  Attend dance audition practices at the Middle School after school and/or in the evening.
     Attend as many practices as it takes to learn the dances.
3.  Participate in a dance audition at the Middle School on Saturday, March 27th at 2:30pm.
4.  Be prepared and available to attend callbacks beginning approximately at 5:00pm  on Saturday, March 27th following        the dance auditions.

*Note:  Music is available to download for all songs on this website.
Please download, print and complete the audition form below.  If you are unable to print a form please see Mrs. Larson and she will provide you with a printed audition form.  Bring this completed form to your audition.  Thank You!

If you are not on the Callback list it does NOT mean you are not in the show.  Please check this website or the Middle School or High School Doors for the final Cast List on Sunday Night, March 28th.

Dance Audition Times:

All Dance Practices will be held at the Detroit Lakes Middle School Auditorium
Monday, March 22nd Dance Practice Sessions: 4:00 - 6:00 & 7:00 - 9:00
Tuesday, March 23rd Dance Practice Session: 4:00 - 6:00 & 7:00 - 9:00
Wednesday, March 24th Dance Practice Session:  4:00 - 6:00
Thursday, March 25th Dance Practice Session: 4:00 - 6:00 & 7:00 - 9:00
Friday, March 26th Dance Practice Session: 4:00 - 6:00 & 7:00 - 9:00
Saturday, March 27th Dance Practice Session 10:00 - 12:00

Dance Auditions begin at 2:30pm on Saturday afternoon, March 27th.

*Note:  Masks must be worn at all times and appropriate social distancing must be strictly adhered to during all dance practices.
